What Is the Crime Victim Assistance Program?

The Crime Victim Assistance Program provides financial assistance to individuals affected by violent crime in British Columbia.

If your claim is approved, CVAP may fund counselling with registered providers.

Coverage may include:

  • Individual trauma therapy

  • Sexual assault counselling

  • Intimate partner violence support

  • Childhood abuse recovery

  • Counselling for certain family members

Funding decisions, number of sessions, and approval extensions are determined directly by the program.

Our role is to provide clinically appropriate treatment within your approved coverage.

Trauma Therapy With a Specialized Focus

Not all counselling clinics specialize in trauma.

Our CVAP-approved counsellors are registered clinical counsellors with advanced training in:

  • EMDR

  • Somatic therapy approaches

  • Internal Family Systems

  • AEDP and Emotion-Focused Therapy

  • Attachment-based therapy

We work with:

  • Nervous system dysregulation

  • Dissociation and shutdown

  • Chronic shame

  • Complex PTSD patterns

  • Relational trauma

When clients search for CVAP therapists in Surrey, they are often looking for steadiness, competence, and a therapist who understands trauma beyond surface coping strategies.

That is what we prioritize.

Direct Billing and Rates

We are approved CVAP providers and can direct bill for covered sessions.

Most of our CVAP-approved counsellors adjust their session rate to align with CVAP’s current maximum reimbursement of $135 per session so that approved sessions are fully covered.

To begin therapy, you will need:

  • An approved CVAP claim number

  • Confirmation of authorized sessions

Additional sessions may require extension requests.

Top-up fees may apply if CVAP’s maximum reimbursement is less than the requested treatment rate. If this occurs, your provider or our administrator will inform you clearly in advance of any potential out-of-pocket expenses.

If funding changes or concludes, we discuss options transparently before continuing.
