Counselling in Punjabi and Hindi in Surrey and Online
Language should never be a barrier to healing. At Tidal Trauma Centre, we’re committed to providing trauma-informed therapy that honours your story in the language that feels most natural to you.
Whether you're most comfortable speaking Punjabi, Hindi, or English, you deserve care that meets you where you are. We offer both in-person therapy in Surrey and online counselling across British Columbia, with therapists who understand the power of language, culture, and connection in the healing process.
Why Language Matters in Therapy
When it comes to trauma therapy, the words we use and the words we can’t find shape how safe we feel. For many South Asian clients, English may not fully capture the emotional nuances of their experience. Being able to speak in your first language can help reduce shame, express emotion more clearly, and create deeper trust with your therapist.
Surrey is one of the most linguistically diverse cities in Canada, with a significant portion of the population identifying Punjabi or Hindi as their first language. Our goal is to ensure that everyone in this vibrant community including those in Cloverdale, Langley, Delta, and beyond has access to counselling that feels both culturally and linguistically safe.
What Culturally Attuned Therapy Looks Like
Therapy should never ask you to set aside your values, family history, or cultural identity. Instead, it should make space for them. That’s why our therapists take the time to understand the context you’re coming from, whether that means navigating expectations around gender roles, dealing with intergenerational pressures, or finding your own voice in a bilingual household.
You might be asking:
Will this therapist understand the stigma I face in my community?
Can I explain what I’m feeling without needing to translate every word in my head?
Will I be able to talk about things like spirituality, family honour, or cultural expectations without judgment?
At Tidal Trauma Centre, we approach each client with humility, openness, and respect. You don’t have to explain everything and you’ll never be asked to translate your pain into a language that doesn’t fit.
Online and In-Person Counselling in Multiple Languages
We offer trauma-informed therapy in Punjabi, Hindi, and English, both in person (at our Cloverdale office) and virtually across BC.
Online counselling is especially helpful if you:
Prefer the comfort of home
Live in a smaller or rural community where culturally matched therapists are harder to find
Want flexible scheduling that works around work or caregiving
In-person counselling may be a better fit if:
You feel more grounded in face-to-face connection
You want a dedicated space outside your home for therapy
You’re already nearby in Surrey, Langley, or Delta
Whatever format you choose, our team is here to support you.

No. We offer therapy in Punjabi, Hindi, and English, and your sessions can be conducted entirely in your preferred language. There is no expectation for you to switch languages unless you choose to.
-
While every therapist brings their own lived experience, we prioritize cultural responsiveness, humility, and ongoing training. Our therapists create space for your values, beliefs, and traditions, even if they don’t share the same background.
-
That’s completely okay. You’ll never be pressured to disclose more than you’re ready for. Trauma therapy should move at your pace. Your therapist will check in, co-create goals with you, and help build safety and trust over time.
