Meet Our Online Counsellors and Therapists Across BC

Therapy That Fits Your Life, No Matter Where You Live

You shouldn’t have to choose between access and quality. Whether you live in Vancouver, Victoria, a small island community, or a remote part of Northern BC, you deserve care that meets you with presence and skill.

Online therapy makes it possible to receive support from trained, trauma-informed clinicians wherever you are. You don’t need to commute. You don’t need to rearrange your entire life. And you don’t need to settle for someone who isn’t a fit just because they’re nearby.

At Tidal Trauma Centre, our online therapists work with adults and couples across British Columbia. This post introduces you to our team, our approach, and what to expect from virtual counselling whether you’re just exploring your options or ready to begin.

What to Look For in an Online Therapist

Online therapy is not just a convenience. When done well, it can be a powerful, connected, and emotionally safe experience. But not every therapist is trained to offer that and not every fit is right.

Here’s what to consider when choosing an online therapist:

●     Attunement in a virtual space: Online sessions require a different kind of presence. Therapists trained in virtual care know how to hold space, track nonverbal cues, and create grounding even through a screen.

●     Clinical focus: Look for someone whose training matches your needs, whether that’s EMDR for trauma, IFS for parts work, EFT for relationship struggles, or somatic therapy for nervous system regulation.

●     Cultural fit: Some clients prefer a therapist with lived experience of similar identities, values, or life challenges. That might mean working with someone who understands religious trauma, neurodivergence, gender-based stress, or family dynamics rooted in immigration or intergenerational complexity.

●     Flexibility and boundaries: Online therapy works best when it’s held with intention. That means clarity, structure, and the ability to adapt to real life without losing the integrity of the work.

If you’re unsure where to begin, we offer a therapist matching process to help clarify who might feel like the right fit for your goals, identity, and nervous system.

What We Support Through Online Therapy

Many people turn to therapy when things begin to feel too heavy to carry alone. Some clients come in with clear goals. Others just know something isn’t working. Our job is to meet you wherever you are and help you explore what’s underneath, without pressure or judgment.

We support clients who are working through:

●     Anxiety, chronic worry, and overthinking

●     Trauma and post-traumatic stress

●     Emotional numbness or internal shutdown

●     High sensitivity, overstimulation, or burnout

●     Religious trauma and spiritual confusion

●     ADHD, executive dysfunction, and self-blame

●     Relationship challenges and communication breakdowns

●     Grief, loss, or a general sense of disconnection from life

Modalities We Use in Online Sessions

You don’t need to know what kind of therapy you need. But if you’re curious, here’s a glimpse of the approaches our online team may use, always adapted to your needs and pace.

●     EMDR Therapy: Modified for virtual sessions, this trauma therapy helps reduce the intensity of distressing memories and body responses.

●     Internal Family Systems (IFS): A gentle, effective way to explore internal parts of you — including protective behaviours and deeper emotions.

●     AEDP & Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT): These relational therapies support emotional healing by creating the right conditions for connection, attunement, and transformation.

●     Somatic Therapy: Even through a screen, your body is part of the process. We use grounding, movement, and interoceptive cues to support nervous system regulation.

●     Attachment-Based and Relational Therapy: The relationship between you and your therapist matters. Many of our clients heal in part through the experience of being seen, respected, and accompanied in ways they may not have had before.

When Online Therapy Might Be a Better Fit

In-person therapy can be powerful, but it’s not always practical. Virtual sessions allow us to work with people who:

●     Live in rural or remote communities in BC

●     Prefer the privacy of their own space

●     Are managing physical health conditions or disabilities

●     Work non-traditional hours or travel often

●     Have caregiving or parenting responsibilities

●     Are looking for a therapist with specific experience not available locally

●     Find it easier to drop into vulnerability from the comfort of home

You don’t have to wait until things get worse or more convenient. Online therapy lets you start where you are.

Getting Started with Online Counselling

If you’re ready, you can fill out a New Client Form and we’ll send you one or more personalized therapist matches. You can also browse bios and Book a Free 20-Minute Consult directly to get a feel for someone’s style and presence.

Not sure what to say during a consult? Our Client Guide to Consult Calls offers simple tips and reflective questions to help you get the most out of your conversation.

Sessions are held on a secure video platform that works on your phone, tablet, or laptop. You don’t need a perfect environment just a relatively private space and a willingness to show up as you are.

  • Yes. Online therapy is backed by years of research showing comparable outcomes to in-person sessions. When offered by trained therapists, virtual counselling can support deep emotional work, trauma resolution, nervous system regulation, and meaningful change.

  • That’s valid. Many people feel unsure at first. Some clients choose to begin with audio-only sessions or explore creative ways to feel grounded, like sitting on the floor, using fidgets, or creating a soft space. Your therapist will help you find what works.

  • Yes. We use encrypted video platforms and follow all privacy guidelines required by Canadian counselling associations. Your sessions are held in confidence and not recorded.

  • At this time, our therapists are registered in British Columbia and can only work with clients who are physically located in the province during sessions.
