Meet Our Surrey Counsellors and Therapists
Why It Matters Who You Work With
Finding the right counsellor is about more than ticking boxes for credentials. It’s about choosing someone who feels attuned to your pace, your patterns, and what it’s like to be in your skin. Someone you can speak freely with, even when things feel messy or unclear.
At Tidal Trauma Centre, we offer therapy rooted in relational safety and clinical depth. Whether you’re navigating anxiety, trauma, ADHD, or emotional overwhelm, our team is here to support what your nervous system needs, not just what the world demands from you.
This blog introduces you to our in-person team in Cloverdale, Surrey. You’ll get a sense of how we work, who we are, and how to get started when the time feels right.
What to Look For in a Therapist
We’re often asked: “How do I know who’s the right fit?”
There’s no perfect formula, but there are things that tend to matter:
● Relational feel: Does something about this person feel steady, safe, or easy to talk to?
● Clinical alignment: Are they trained in the kinds of therapy that match what you’re dealing with? (e.g. EMDR for trauma, IFS for inner conflict, EFT for relationships)
● Lived understanding: Do they have experience with people like you, whether that means identity, culture, life stage, or core struggle?
● Pacing and style: Some therapists are more structured. Others are more process-oriented. Some are active and directive. Others are gentle and spacious.
We help you think through these pieces in our matching process, but if you’re browsing, start by noticing who you’re naturally drawn to. What sparks a sense of curiosity or safety?

● Shame, perfectionism, and self-worth
● Relationship dynamics and family conflict
● ADHD, executive dysfunction, and difficulty focusing
● Grief, loss, or complicated life transitions
We use a combination of evidence-based, body-informed, and relational approaches, always tailored to what your system can hold and what you’re ready for.
Common therapy approaches include:
● EMDR Therapy – to support memory reconsolidation and trauma reprocessing
● Internal Family Systems (IFS) – to work with protective parts and internal conflict
● AEDP & Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT) – to foster emotional expression, safety, and attachment repair
● Somatic Therapy – to help regulate the nervous system and reconnect with body-based cues
● Attachment-Based and Relational Therapy – to build trust, attunement, and emotional insight within the therapeutic relationship
We don’t take a one-size-fits-all approach. We listen carefully to what’s happening in your internal world and collaborate on a path that respects your pace and goals.
The Experience of In-Person Counselling
Some clients specifically seek in-person sessions because they feel more grounded in a room with someone. For others, it’s about privacy, or a break from their everyday environment.
Our Cloverdale offices are designed to feel quiet, warm, and calm without being clinical or cold. Many clients say it feels more like being in a living room with a lot of plants than a clinic.
If you’re considering in-person counselling and live in or near Surrey, we offer both daytime and evening appointments to help fit therapy into real life.
